The American Bookbinders Museum

The American Bookbinders Museum explores and celebrates the craft, culture, and tools of bookbinding.

Field trips enhance traditional learning with social-emotional education, hands-on activities, and real-life contextual applications. ABM field trips include a guided tour where students learn about industrial history followed by a workshop where students bind their own book under the guidance of an instructor. Students take ownership of their own learning and it fosters a personal connection with design. The number of students served on ABM field trips increased 100% from 2024 to 2025. Happy National Game and Puzzle Week! Created by Janus Press in 2017, Gameboard/Symmetries was inspired by old game boards such as Parcheesi, Sorry!, and Chinese checkers. Each symmetrical design begins with a grid. These grids encompass a quadrant from each of the original game boards, creating mandala-like designs or kaleidoscope-like views. Gameboard/Symmetries has no right way up; it can be viewed from any angle. The American Bookbinders Museum featured this game in our 2024 exhibition Bound to be Different, which highlighted books from different private presses. ... See MoreSee Less
