Let this be your sign to clean your bookcase! Here at ABM, we understand the importance of book preservation, housing our books in temperature and humidity-controlled facilities. However, we know that this is not available to the average book collector and the wrong environment will hasten book degradation. Here are some storage tips:- Avoid placing your bookcases in areas that receive too much direct sunlight. Sun makes covers fade fast and speeds up the aging process of paper.- Steer clear of locations where humidity levels fluctuate often. These include air vents and ducts, bathrooms that accumulate and release steam into the surrounding air, and even basements and attics.- Dust your books and bookshelf regularly. Not only will dust stain your favorite books, but it will crowd indoor air quality and invite unwanted pests who munch on paper and leave waste behind. If you notice silverfish (small, gray, wingless insects), mold, or black specs, you’ll want to take action immediately to prevent the spread of maladies. Different bindings require various methods of cleaning, so be sure to understand what kind of binding you’re dealing with beforehand. Most mass-market paperback and hardcover editions can be wiped gently with an unused, dry microfiber cloth. ... See MoreSee Less
