The American Bookbinders Museum

The American Bookbinders Museum explores and celebrates the craft, culture, and tools of bookbinding.

Magicians have been using illusionary techniques for centuries to intrigue or trick audiences by relying on sequencing and timing, hiding and revealing information, and curating an experience for the audience. Join book artist Keri Schroeder in learning how to merch these concepts to create engaging book art in Smoke and Mirrors a special webinar with the American Bookbinders Museum. Did you know that Mexico has the longest print tradition in North America? Starting in the mid-sixteenth century, woodcut prints, used for devotional, political, and visual entertainment. This tradition developed over time into the creation of political caricatures as a form of rebellion. Prints played an important role in the dissemination of information during the Mexican Revolution and the fight for Mexican Independence we celebrate today. #printing #cincodemayo #MexicanRevolution #woodcut Image: Plate 11: striking workers in June 1906 protesting for equal rights from their American employees, at the mining company Green Consolidated. ,From the portfolio 'Estampas de la revolución Mexicana(prints of the Mexican Revolution).Artist: Pablo Esteban O'Higgins (American, Salt Lake City, Utah 1904–1983 Mexico City)Courtesy of the MET ... Have books that you care about preserving? Here are 3 easy steps that you can take with your collection at home to ensure its future is viable. Store your books in a low-humidity environment without direct sunlight and little temperature variation. Avoid attics and basements, as these locations are susceptible to moisture and extreme temperatures. When shelving books, store small to medium books upright with support on both sides. If books are leaning, it can cause spines and covers to warp. Large books that cannot be easily supported should lie flat on their cover. Dust your books regularly. Dust is acidic and can cause discoloration, brittleness, or even dust cementation when built up.Image from Invalluable #preservationweek #ABM #bookbinding #bookcollection #collectioncare ...
