Flourishing in the 1930s, paperbacks were popular due to their low cost. While this promoted literacy, the materials used for paperbacks with their “perfect bindings” (adhesive bindings) were not intended to last. Join the American Bookbinders Museum in re-binding your favorite paperback—if you don’t have a special paperback, the museum will provide one. Your paperback should have its spine still intact.
