Gay American History: Lesbians and Gay Men in the USA by Jonathan Katz was first published in 1976, collecting various primary sources to tell a history of the LGBT community, starting in 1566. Written in the aftermath of the Stonewall Riots of June 28, 1969, the book points first to a long history of persecution, but also one of resistance in the form of treatises, societies like the Daughters of Bilitis, lectures defending homosexuality, and openly gay characters in novels. Katz points out that these forms of resistance would have had minimal impact when he was writing in the 1970s, but they would have been daring when they were made. #stonewallanniversary #Pride #riots #queerhistory #book ... How does the ABM preserve its collection? Among the many potential deterioration factors that the ABM monitors and protects against is Equilibrium Moisture Content. Controlling the equilibrium moisture prevents fluctuations in size of hygroscopic objects, brittleness in organic materials, and decreases metal corrosion, preventing rust and other oxidation issues. Your support helps the ABM continue its preservation practices!#ABM10 #donation #museums #museum #supportmuseums #thankyou ... See MoreSee Less
