Book Smart: Learning to Break the Rules

Where do Book Artists come from? Like apprentices of old, book arts students learn core bookbinding structures from skilled instructors. With their guidance and encouragement students transform basic structures into new and unique forms.

The American Bookbinders Museum is pleased to present works from three book arts programs: San Francisco Art Institute, Mills College and Oregon College of Art & Craft. Instructor models are on display alongside student works that introduce fresh, new forms.

Opening reception on Saturday, September 14 from 4:30 – 6:30, with remarks by instructors Rhiannon Alpers, Julie Chen, and Barbara Tetenbaum. Please join us for light refreshments and excellent conversation.

American Bookbinders Museum

The American Bookbinders Museum is the only museum of its kind in North America, celebrating and exploring the history, tools and stories of bookbinders and bookbinding, from its earliest forms through the changes and innovations of the industrial revolution.
