Webinar: Variations on the Sewn Board Binding

Join book artist Roberta Lavadour in a webinar demonstrating adaptations to sewn board bindings. This structure allows a unique level of mobility and flexibility because the covers are sewn in, creating a floating spine. By pushing the limits of traditional structures, it allows endless opportunities for exploration and adaptation while remaining grounded in sound bookbinding practices. This binding style is great for beginners, laying a strong foundation in fundamental structure while allowing for creative thinking. Sign up today to learn how this traditional structure can take on new life.

Roberta Lavadour’s work is fueled by her rampant curiosity, exploring diverse themes inspired by everything from yard sale finds to her tangled family history. She’s been exhibiting artist’s books and design bindings for more than 20 years. Roberta has been recognized as an Oregon Arts Fellow by the Oregon Arts Commission and an Honored Artist of Eastern Oregon by the Eastern Oregon Regional Arts Council (now ArtsEast). She has been a featured presenter at notable national book arts venues, including the Guild of Book Workers Standards of Excellence seminar, Paper and Book Intensive, and Focus on Book Arts. She has contributed to many publications that showcase work in her field and instructions for her innovative structures are made available on her website, RobertaLavadour.com.
