You will be introduced to two distinct methods for creating surface designs through carefully crafted cuts. Sol will show you how to prepare boards for incision work and how to execute incision lines. She will share techniques for creating incisions directly into leather before attachment and surface preparation for painting. Attendees will leave with a foundational understanding of the incision decorating method and be prepared to incorporate this element into their own bindings.
Sol Rébora is a design binder working in Buenos Aires, Argentina, since 1997. She is a well-recognized practitioner, receiving awards both in Argentina and abroad. Her work encompasses innovative and experimental work in design bindings and contemporary conservation methods.
Sol works and teaches out of her Buenos Aires studio. She offers in-person and online lectures and workshops at institutions and schools like the San Francisco Center for the Book, Iowa University Center for the Book , American Academy of Bookbinding, and
Penland School of Craft. She participates in group exhibitions such us Éphémère , Tomorrow’s Past and Les Pages Bien Gardées. Sol’s work may be found in many private and institutional collections: Athenæum Library, Miami University Special Collection, San Diego Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, the Bancroft Library, and the British Library.
