What can a bookbinder, a painter, and a publisher each reveal about Slaughterhouse-Five? Join bookbinder Willa Anderson, painter Edith Vonnegut, and publisher Paul Suntup for a panel discussion exploring the novel through their distinct creative perspectives. Together, they will discuss design, inspiration, and art in connection with various Suntup editions of Kurt Vonnegut’s classic.

The Panelists

Willa Anderson is a recent graduate of the North Bennet Street School bookbinding program, and is based in Providence, RI. They have a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design, and an MLIS from Simmons University. This fall they will start a year long fellowship working in the conservation lab of The Boston Athenaeum.

Paul Suntup is the founder and publisher of Suntup Editions, an independent press established in 2017 that produces limited edition books of classic and contemporary literature. He collaborates with artists, typographers, printers, and hand bookbinders — including work undertaken in the press’s own bindery — to produce editions in the tradition of the fine press movement: books made with care, intention, and respect for the craft.

Edith Vonnegut is an American painter who illustrated the frontispiece of the Suntup edition of Slaughterhouse Five. Her work—much of it juxtaposes heavenly beings and mundane activities—has been showcased at galleries across the United States, and is featured in Domestic Goddesses, along with her humorous commentary. Educated at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and the School of Visual Arts, University of Iowa she was a contributing Illustrator to The Franklin Mint Press and The New York Times Op Ed pages.
