Stella was a bookbinder, world traveler, and a Mud Angel. Volunteering to rescue books damaged by the 1966 Florence flood, she was at the forefront of modern book conservation practices.
November 1st 1996 was declared Stella Patri Day by Mayor Willie Brown marking her extraordinary life and 100th birthday. Join us on Stella’s 129th birthday to celebrate the addition of this fascinating exhibit to the museum’s main gallery.
