SF in SF with Mary Robinette Kowal and Adam Savage

Please join us for an evening of reading and conversation with author Mary Robinette Kowal and Adam Savage, in conversation with Bay Area writer Cliff Winnig.

Nebula and Hugo Award-winning author Mary Robinette Kowal is a novelist, voice actor, and professional puppeteer. The first book in her Lady Astronaut series The Calculating Stars (Tor 2018), won the Hugo, Nebula and Locus awards, becoming one of only eighteen novels to do so. Her stories have appeared in Strange Horizons, Asimov’s, and several Year’s Best anthologies, as well as in her collection Scenting the Dark and Other Stories from Subterranean Press. Her newest book is The Spare Man, an SF mystery set on a luxury space liner.

Adam Savage has been an actor, animator, graphic designer, carpenter, projectionist, film developer, television presenter, set designer, toy designer, and gallery owner. He worked as a model maker on films including Galaxy QuestBicentennial ManStar Wars: Episode II – Attack of the ClonesThe MummyThe Matrix Reloaded. From 2010-2015 Adam was co-host of the late-lamented MythBusters. He has  been a regular guest speaker at the annual Maker Faire since 2008. If that’s not enough, he’s also the author of Every Tool’s a Hammer: Life is What You Make It, “stories from forty-plus years of making and molding, building and break­ing, along with the lessons I learned along the way.”

Doors open at 6:00 pm; event begins at 6:30 pm. Admission is $10 (no one is turned away for lack of funds). As always, Bookshop West Portal will be on hand with copies of the authors’ works for sale.
