Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm: Walk-ins Welcome!

Bound with PRIDE: A Panel Discusssion

As part of the HBC’s 53rd Annual Members’ Exhibition, book artists were given a unique opportunity to create original works using sections of a donated Gilbert Baker Rainbow Flag that once flew over Harvey Milk Plaza.

Slippery, synthetic, and stubborn, the fabric resisted precision—fraying, warping, and pushing back at every turn. Much like the queer identities and experiences it represents, it demanded care, patience, and persistence.

Join us for a panel discussion exploring the resulting works: a spectrum of interpretations that reflect the challenges, beauty, and meaning embedded in the flag and the hands that shaped it. Meet some of the artists, learn about their processes and hear about some of the challenges they encountered turning their vision into a book.
