Publisher's Binding

Bound in olive green fine ribbed cloth with a simple, elegant design of four bisecting horizontal and vertical lines, forming 1/1/4 inch corners, where a gilt wreath and bow is placed. Title in center stamped in gilt. Gilt wreath is also placed to top and bottom of spine. Binding has features of Sarah Wyman Whitman due to stylistic devices of corner decoration within a ruled grid and the employment of wreaths, which is seen throughout her work. The design for the Household Series was changed from an earlier design - see The Poetical Works of Tennyson designed by Whitman.
