Publisher's Binding- Art Nouveau

Decorative Designers

Bound in dark green olive cloth stamped in light green and gilt in a design incorporating elements of both art nouveau and art deco. Leaving the bottom half of the cover mostly undecorated, the design is massed in the top half, creating an effect of elongation. Four bamboo stalks rise from the bottom and spread up and outward in leaf in flower. Superimposed over the foliage is a gilt bordered rectangle with author and title within in gilt and anchored in each corner by a square, stylized flower, created by the use of negative stamping. Stylized flower motif repeated to spine. Signed binding, with interlocked DD on center left of bamboo stalks. Attributed to Lee Thayer.

First printing, October 1909
