Laine Tammer The Helen Fragments
Book
Artist Statement:
LAINE TAMMER (USA)
The design is abstracted from photographs of ancient ruins of the two warring cities: Sparta on the front cover, and Troy on the back. Helen, whose elopement (or abduction) sparked the war, is represented by the pewter figure on the spine of the clamshell box. As the most beautiful woman in the world, she stands naked, situated symbolically between the two cities, desired by both. The stone veneer references the endurance of the architecture and the story.
