Word For Word: Off the Page

We are pleased to host another Off the Page with San Francisco’s amazing theater group Word for Word. We love what they do with literature and we think you will too!

Off the PageAssimilation by E. L. Doctorow.

Word for Word is a theater company that brings short stories to life, honoring the author’s intent by using every word of a text and illuminating works with atmospheric visuals, imaginative staging, and honed performances. Learn More about Word for Word at zspace.org/wordforword. Their Off the Page staged reading series is the public’s first look at pieces they are considering for upcoming productions. They invite audiences to see the steps of the process of bringing a work from the page to the stage and engage in conversation with the audience after the reading.

In this short story by E. L. Doctorow, a dishwasher is offered a chance at promotion—if he agrees to enter a green-card marriage at his boss’s request.

Off the Page events are free, but it is encouraged to make a donation, either online when purchasing or at the venue during the reading. We suggest $25 for those who are able.
