Publisher's Binding- Art Nouveau

Margaret Armstrong

Bound in a dusky rose, smooth-grain cloth and stamped entirely in gilt, the design is of two andirons with a blazing log radiating warmth, depicted by a circle of rays surrounding the hearth. This is enclosed within an art nouveau border of leaf and flowers, more typical of her later work. The imagery of hearth and home is representative of the text, which waxes poetic about the loss of plantation life and the genteel South. Top edge gilt. Signed binding, one of Armstrong's scarcer early bindings.
