The Poetical Works of William Cullen Bryant / William Cullen Bryant
Book
362 pages. Tissue guarded frontis. Illustrations.
Binding has stylistic devices characteristic of Sarah Wyman Whitman: the corner decoration within a ruled grid and the employment of wreaths, which is seen throughout her work.
The design for the Household Series was changed from an earlier design-- see The Poetical Works of Tennyson designed by Whitman. Note that this binding is identical to those Houghton Mifflin Household Series, but this volume is published by Appleton in a slightly smaller size with inferior paper and printing.
