Publisher's Binding- Poster Style

Unidentified Designer

Bound in a mustard yellow ungrained cloth in a four panel design created by black lines, with three panels to the top and a large blank one to the bottom. The design, at top center, is taken from the frontis illustration, and shows a contemplative, stylishly dressed woman wearing a large hat, long skirt, and puffy sleeves, seated on a rock in a wooded setting. Notable is the use of black negative stamping to create the woman and her dress. Behind her, stamped in olive green and outlined in black are three art nouveau tree trunks with a gilt sky in the background. The simplicity of the design, and its judicious use of space on the cover, creates a powerful image, particularly the black mass of the woman's skirt.
