Publisher's Binding- Art Nouveau

Decorative Designers

Bound in dark grey cloth, the cover features a gilt bordered snow covered Matterhorn as seen through a mountain vista. Stamped in pink, white, purple, and two shades of green. This is enclosed in elaborate art nouveau tall gilt sunflowers, with a single gilt sunflower the length of the spine. A spectacular art nouveau design, made more special by the extremely rare matching publisher's heavy linen dust jacket, in the same color as the bookcloth and featuring the same gilt sunflower spine, but not the front design. This represents a transitional phase in publishing, with the dust jacket beginning to be a marketing feature, rather than a mere protective cover. Attributed to The Decorative Designers, unsigned.
