In original slipcase printed in green floral pattern with replicated design of spider web and tree. Box has wear but is sturdy and intact. Bound in the variant grey cloth with elaborate gilt spine decoration and titles. Top edge gilt. Cover in gilt and ivory stamped design of a tree branch and spider web, signed with the initials "SH" underneath the ivory title ribbon. One of a set of Reed titles issued in the same set at various times by Putnam and designed by Armstrong - but not this one! Deckled page edges.

Second printing, a month after publication. Endpaper inscriptions: J. J. Flynn [stamped] Nellie F. Flynn [written].
